Essence Phillips

Creative Storyteller,
Youth Mentor,
and
Community Advocate

I promise to approach every story and collaboration with genuine curiosity and care. My work will be emotionally honest, visually compelling, and responsive to the people it serves. There will be no performance of compassion or empty inspiration. Only thoughtful work in which people can recognize themselves and place their trust.

My Promise

My mission is to use storytelling and creative direction to help people feel understood and confident in their own voices. Through compassionate facilitation and intentional curation, I create honest work that supports mental well-being, honors marginalized experiences, and moves personal stories into conversations that can create change.

My Mission

You have a powerful story, but it has not reached the people who need it.

You are an artist, advocate, founder, or purpose-driven organization with something real to say. I help shape complex experiences into writing that feels relatable and emotionally honest without making the truth more comfortable than it is.

Your mission is meaningful, but your brand does not make people feel it.

Your work deserves more than attractive visuals and vague messaging. I bring together creative direction, brand voice, and storytelling to build an identity people recognize and trust.

You need a speaker who creates conversation instead of simply delivering information.

You are planning a workshop, panel, youth program, or community event about mental health, harm reduction, LGBTQIA+ identity, neurodivergence, body neutrality, or personal growth. I combine lived experience with compassionate facilitation to make difficult subjects easier to discuss without stripping away their complexity.

You want to serve marginalized communities without speaking over them.

You are part of a nonprofit, school, wellness organization, creative team, or socially conscious brand seeking to engage LGBTQIA+ youth, POC, disabled people, or other marginalized communities with care. I help develop stories and creative experiences that treat people as participants, never props.

My Non-negotiables
  1. I believe strong creative work begins with trust. I will not manufacture outrage or sensationalize pain to make a project more marketable. Vulnerability should deepen a story, not function as an engagement tactic.

  2. I will not reduce people to labels or turn marginalized identities into branding material. Representation must reflect the full humanity of the people involved. If a project depends on stereotypes, saviorism, or humiliation, I will not participate.

  3. I create from a point of view. I am not interested in copying every trend, building reaction-based content, or letting an algorithm make creative decisions for me. Reach matters, but it cannot come at the expense of substance.

  4. I treat audiences as people rather than conversion opportunities. I will not use fear, insecurity, or manufactured urgency to pressure someone into buying. The goal is to create a community where people feel more connected to themselves, not dependent on me.

  5. I choose collaborators whose conduct matches their public values. If a partnership compromises my ethics or the trust I have built with my community, I will walk away.

  6. I welcome creative risk and direct feedback. I will not accept exploitation disguised as strategy.
